 The AIM QUALIFICATIONS Level 3 Award in Practical Dog training is part of the Canine Training and Behaviour certificate has been

 developed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career working in the canine care and welfare sector. It can be studied as a   stand alone Award or as part of the Canine Training and Behaviour certificate.

This qualification can be used flexibly to meet learner needs. Depending on the context of the learning and the needs of each individual learner, the

 qualification can:


  • prepare learners for employment;


  • support a role in the workplace;


  • encourage engagement in learning.


 Prepare individuals to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and             

 understanding;


  The qualification Canine Training and Behaviour has been designed to enable learners to


  •  understand dog training instruction


  • understand canine behaviour and communication


  • run practical dog training sessions


  • instruct dog training


 Course content:


1. Be able to employ a range of methods and techniques to train dogs.


1.1. Evaluate training methods used with dogs.


1.2. Employ appropriate training methods to meet specific training requirements.


1.3. Evaluate factors that can affect the success of training.


1.4. Analyse common problems when training dogs.


1.5. Evaluate ways to overcome problems when training dogs.


2. Be able to conduct basic training for a range of dogs.


2.1. Demonstrate positive methods of training across a range of training exercises.


2.2. Demonstrate different techniques of teaching the same exercise.


2.3. Demonstrate how different techniques of teaching the same exercise can be adapted to meet individual needs.


3. Know how to ensure consistency in dog training.


3.1. Explain how to ensure dog training exercises are consistent.


4. Be able to train dogs to advanced levels in one discipline.


4.1. Demonstrate how to train dogs to more advanced levels in one area.


4.2. Evaluate dogs’ performance.


4.3. Explain how exercises used could be improved.

Entry requirements:


This course is suitable for those working in, or wishing to work in the Canine industry or pet owners that would like to increase their knowledge about dogs. A knowledge of working with dogs is not required. Minimum age 18 years
