The AIM QUALIFICATIONS Level 3 Award Providing Professional Daycare & Boarding is part of the Canine Studies certificate has been developed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career working in the canine care and welfare sector. It can be studied as a stand alone Award or as part of the canine Studies certificate.
This qualification can be used flexibly to meet learner needs. Depending on the context of the learning and the needs of each individual learner, the qualification can:
Prepare individuals to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding;
This qualification has been designed to enable learners to understand how to offer Professional daycare and Boarding.
Course Content:
1. Understand legislation and ethical considerations relating to operating professional day care and boarding services
1.1. Summarise legislation that relates to professional services for dogs
1.2. Explain responsibilities involved in providing professional day care and boarding services for dog
1.3. Explain the ethical operation of providing professional services for dogs
2. Understand different designs of facilities required to operate professional day care and boarding services
2.1. Evaluate different designs of kennel layout. 2.2 Summarise facilities required by businesses offering professional services for dogs
2.3. Assess services that may be offered as professional services for dogs
3. Be able to follow administrative procedures to admit animals to kennels, dog sitting or dog walking
3.1. Summarise client and dog information to be recorded before, during and after services in line with data protection regulations
3.2. Explain how to manage bookings to meet client requirements and manage workload
3.3. Develop procedures for accepting a new dog into day care or boarding services
4. Be able to carry out dog husbandry to promote the safety and welfare of the public, handler and dogs
4.1. Explain dog care requirements and how these will be met when providing professional services for dogs
4.2. Summarise suitable equipment for safety, control and comfort in a range of situations and with a range of different types of dogs
4.3. Explain how to manage safe dog social interactions
4.4. Assess the possible causes of stress in dogs in day care or boarding services
4.5. Suggest how stress caused by day care or boarding services can be minimised
4.5. Summarise first aid actions to be taken in the case of an accident
4.6 List the contents of the first aid kit
Entry requirements:
This course is suitable for those working in, or wishing to work in the Canine industry or pet owners that would like to increase their knowledge about dogs. A knowledge of working with dogs is not required. Minimum age 18 years
